In 1811 Champagne changed forever thanks to the innovation of the Widow Cliquot, at the same time the Great Comet was seen across the sky for over 260 days which many took as an omen. It was time of illness, war and uncertainty; many did not know how long they would live. They would drink the sweet bubbles of Champagne until the sun rose, as if it was their last night on earth. In those bubbles, they could drink the secrets of the vines, enveloping themselves in the power of the comet. In that glass, they could recapture all that was lost, forget their grief, the mundane disappointments in life and for just a moment, drink the stars.
